Joe Jonas believes it's important to stay friends with ex-partners whenever possible.
The American singer-and-actor made his name in band the Jonas Brothers, alongside siblings Kevin and Nick.
Joe has had a number of high-profile relationships in the past. The star enjoyed a relationship with country pop singer Taylor Swift in 2008. Later, he began a year-long relationship with Camilla Belle after she starred in his band's music promo for Lovebug.
Joe also enjoyed a brief romance with Demi Lovato in 2010, before dating Ashley Greene. The pair split earlier this year.
Joe says it's important to him to stay friends with his ex-partners.
'Wow! I'd have to say that in order to save a friendship you need to be yourself,' he told Bliss magazine.
'Sadly it's not always possible, but I was brought up to be a good guy and I hope that shows. These things take time too. You can't be friends with someone immediately after a break-up. It's not an overnight situation. Everyone needs some time to heal and figure it all out.'
Joe believes that friendships can be salvaged at the end of a relationship. The star keeps an open mind about these things.
'People like to think that once you've dated, that's it and you can never be friends again,' he explained. 'They see it in a very black and white way. But there's a middle-ground in this situation.'
