John Barrowman has admitted that he doesn't know if Torchwood has a future.
The Doctor Who spin-off returned for a fourth series this year, basing itself in the US but, despite a larger budget and transatlantic cast, it received mixed reviews, casting a fifth season into doubt.
He told Irish station RTE: "We've pushed the pause button now because we don’t know what's happening. I would love to do a new series and I will play Captain Jack as long as they want me to play Captain Jack. It's in limbo at the moment and beyond my control."
Despite this, Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack Harkness, called for a feature length version of the show, saying: "I think that Torchwood, more so than Doctor Who, lends itself to being a big film because it's more adult."
Executive producer Julie Gardner recently told the BBC of the show: "I don't know if there will be more. It has been across so many different channels and so many international audiences, across so many different story structures, and so many numbers of episodes. There's no single way forward for the show."
Eve Myles recently said that she wasn't interested in appearing in Doctor Who's fiftieth anniversary show, which airs in November 2013, although Barrowman is said to be keen to return to the show that first made him a star.
