The 20/20 Experience isn't the only thing fans have to look forward to from Justin Timberlake. It seems like the "Suit & Tie" singer will be releasing a documentary around the making of the album, and you probably didn't realize that you've already seen a sneak peek.
The countdown video Timberlake released last month added suspense to his long-awaited return to music, but turns out, it's part of Justin's bigger plan.
"Not to give too much away because you know I like surprising the fans, but that little piece of footage is from a documentary we started working on throughout the making of the album, which started last June," Timberlake told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Monday (February 4). "So it was more a little excerpt from that, which I kinda thought about afterwards. Like, oh, people don't know about the documentary. This seems a little weird."
But fans have fully embraced Timberlake's comeback. He took the stage for the first time in a few years over Super Bowl weekend, and despite some rumor-sparking Britney Spears comments, it seemed to be the perfect practice run for his next big gig: the 2013 Grammy Awards.
"I'm still in the process of figuring all of it out," Timberlake said about his Grammy performance. "That was kind of a whirlwind, we got a phone call, got confirmed ... I'm like 'oh wait, I should put something together.' So I'm the process of doing something right now."
Even though Timberlake didn't want to give too much away, he did say to be prepared for "some stuff you haven't heard."
In addition to perfecting his upcoming Grammy performance, the former boy bander is also putting the finishing touches on his much anticipated album The 20/20 Experience, due out March 19.
"It more or less came out of I was playing some of the stuff for my friends and they would come in and out of the studio and I'd say, 'What do you think of this?'" Timberlake said about picking out the album title. "And my best friend said, 'This is music that you can see,' and for some reason that stuck with me."
Timberlake also revealed that most of the album was recorded before his October wedding to Jessica Biel and that it will be somewhat reminiscent of his 2006 FutureSex/LoveSounds album.
"We touched on the last album with the interludes and the pieces that connect the song to another song we've really gone deep on that part of the process a lot of the songs are really two-in-one," Timberlake said. "For instance, when you're putting a song out like "Suit & Tie," it's kind of two different things happening at the same time. I know that there aren't many R&B dance records on the radio and I think we kind of felt, it seemed fresh to Tim [Timbaland] and I and obviously Jay we just felt like yea let's put it out. I love the record."
