Justin Timberlake is to play music mogul Neil Bogart in Spinning Gold, a biopic charting the life of one of the most important figures of the 1970s.
Bogart was an American executive responsible for the success of KISS, T. Rex, Donna Summer and The Village People, and was widely credited with the rise of bubblegum pop.
Although no relation to Hollywood legend Humphrey Bogart (his real surname being Bogatz), he nonetheless named his record label Casablanca.
One of his most trusted colleagues was Peter Guber, who would later find success producing Hollywood movies Rain Man and Tim Burton's Batman.
Bogart died from Cancer in 1982, aged just 39, but his sons Timothy Scott Bogart and Evan "Kidd" Bogart have kept his legacy alive, and it is their new company, Boardwalk Entertainment, that will produce the film.
Timothy said in a statement: "Spinning Gold is a saga about a young dreamer who started with nothing and came of age in the 60s and 70s, believing anything was possible and every risk was worth taking. The main issue has been finding an actor who would embody Bogart. When Justin walked into the room, that was the moment I had been waiting for!"
Timberlake will also produce, with the film scheduled to begin production in 2012.
