Kendrick Lamar has opened up about his hotly anticipated follow-up to 2012’s Good Kid m.A.A.d City - describing the record as 'aggressive and emotional'.
The rapper also revealed that the LP will feature production from Dr. Dre and lyrics expanding on the personal stories on GKMC, inspired by his experiences growing up in the ganglands of Compton.
Lamar told Rolling Stone: “There was a lot left out of good kid — it could have been a 30-track album. There are a few new [songs] that can tie in with what I was talking about.”
Apparently we can expect more “aggression and emotion” from the tracks, building on his reputation since GMKMC, which earned him four Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year.
And Lamar is planning on doing most of the hard work himself on the new record, so far not calling in any guest MCs: “I have so much to say! It’s almost selfish of me.”
Fans don’t have long to wait now to hear it now, with late October/early November looking like the best bet given that Lamar has a high-profile Halloween gig booked in none other than the Bermuda Triangle October 30 – November 2, alongside Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris.
For those who can’t wait until then, catch the Compton legend on Flying Lotus’ track ‘Never Catch Me’, on new album, You’re Dead, out October 7.
