Ke$ha returned to the VMAs this year, and the super-glam pop singer had some big news for her Animals who tuned into the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show.
"I'm really happy to announce my new single," Ke$ha shared. "It's called 'Die Young,' and it's coming out this month."
The singer has been hard at work this year, hitting the studio to cook up tracks for her next album release. She's managed to make some interesting musical alliances whose influence might be felt on her new batch of tunes.
"We're really, really close now," she said of her friendship with the Flaming Lips. "I went on a spirit journey, came back, worked with the Flaming Lips, worked with Iggy Pop — really explored my rock roots."
While she has yet to announce her album title, this release marks Ke$ha's first full-length album since her star-making 2010 debut, Animal. "The first two records talked more about partying, which is a great, magical part of life, but some songs on the new record are more personal and vulnerable," she said about her debut and her re-release, Cannibal. "And you can hear more of the music I listen to when I'm lying in my bed. I'm not claiming that it's a rock record, but as long as it's f---ing good, you can call it whatever you want.
"About 90 percent of the time, I don't give a f---, but I give so many f---s about this album," she said. "Some people weren't sure if I could sing. On this record, I said, 'Let's leave the tricks to a minimum and let me wail.' "
