Kristen Stewart To Star In 'Lie Down In Darkness'

Kristen Stewart has just added another film to her growing docket of post-"Twilight" work. The actress has landed the lead role in the indie "Lie Down in Darkness," reportedly beating out Jennifer Lawrence for the part.

According to Vulture, the actress will play the part of Peyton Loftis, part of a dysfunctional southern family in the 1950s. Her looks make her a perfect target for her mother's anger and her father's incestuous advances. Additionally, Peyton has a handicapped sister, Maudie, whom she is constantly being compared to. The indie is based on William Styron's 1951 novel of the same name and will be directed by "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper.

Oscar nominee Lawrence was also up for the coveted part but couldn't commit in the end due to her busy schedule filming sequels to "The Hunger Games" and "X-Men: First Class." It is unknown when "Lie Down in Darkness" is expected to begin production.

In addition to this project and the next "Twilight Saga" film, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," which opens in November, Stewart has several other films either completed or ready to begin shooting. "On the Road" will arrive later this year, and Stewart is set to star in the quirky, dark "Cali." She is also expected to hit the set for the "Snow White and the Huntsman" sequel at some point.

While Stewart's post-"Twilight" movie schedule is filled with varied and complicated roles, fans might most be excited to see her finally play vampire Bella come November. "I think the first hunt [will excite fans], being able to physically [play that]. It's like breaking a car in. I think it's going to be so cool," she shared with MTV News at Comic-Con last month. "I think people are going to dig it."
