Kristen Stewart has kept a low profile recently, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly released late Wednesday, she opened up about her philosophy on navigating celebrity life. She notes that while some A-listers have crafted characters to play in interviews, she just hasn't been the type of person to do that.
"I've never been able to fully form this thing, this persona, that some people are so f--ing good at. That's an art," she explained with both her "Twilight Saga" co-stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson by her side. "I know a lot of actors [who can do that] and you guys aren't them."
From there, she complimented her longtime co-stars for not being anything but themselves when they're interviewed, adding, "I don't like people like that." The actress explained that she never wants to come off as "fake" to the media.
"People who are a complete non-person but somehow through the lens seem like they are on and interesting and engaged. I care way more about the people standing in the room. I don't want anyone leaving and saying, 'God, that girl is so fake.' People tell me to make it easier on myself and to play a character when I go out on carpets and stuff. But you know what?" she said. "I'd rather be me."
The bites were released in conjunction with the magazine's cover story about "Breaking Dawn — Part 2" where the film's director, Bill Condon, asked fans to "respect" Stewart and Pattinson in the wake of paparazzi photos featuring Stewart and her "Snow White" director Rupert Sanders.
"The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it's not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that," the director said. "Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the 'Twilight' movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon. Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success. Now it's time that some of that respect be returned to them."
