Leighton Meester feels most creative at night.
The star found fame on Gossip Girl, where she played popular high-school queen Blair Waldorf.
Since the show finished in 2012, she has been concentrating on her music career and also appeared on Broadway in show Of Mice and Men. When it comes to writing her tracks, peace and quiet isn't productive for the 28 year old.
"Weirdly, it works best when I'm really busy," she revealed to German magazine Joy when asked about her song writing process.
"That's when it's a really welcome distraction. I often write on set, in the changing room or in my hotel room. I'm especially creative at night - the ideas just come spilling out.
"It doesn't work the other way around: when I sit down to write in a moment of peace and quiet, I just go blank and get writers' block."
It's a busy time for Leighton - this year she takes on the role of narrator for documentary Unity and she's also promoting album Heartstrings, which was released towards the end of 2014.
When she does have time to relax, the star likes to binge-watch her favourite shows.
"I watch Breaking Bad on DVD - I'm completely addicted," she confessed. "Or at least I was. Now I've finished all seasons and I'm really upset the series has come to an end."
Leighton also revealed what fans can expect from her album. Her songs are mostly inspired by good and bad experiences of love, her feelings and personal growth and her heart.
