Libertines and Black Sabbath Hyde Park gigs anger Mayfair residents

The residents of Mayfair have once again voiced their complaints about shows taking place in Hyde Park, this time targetting The Libertines and Black Sabbath shows taking place this summer.

The area has always been an issue of contention with local residents, in relation to noise levels and the curfew time. Last year both Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen were forced to cut shows short after running past the 10:30pm finish time and complaints were levelled at the Blur show due to the sound levels being too low.

Now the local residents have targetted the recently announced Libertines gig, with chairman of the local residents society Anthony Lorenz speaking to the Independent about the reunion show. 

"We can't be supportive of this show for obvious reasons," he said. "We've had meetings over the noise levels and volume controls from the Hyde Park concerts and they have been under control recently. But we can't be supportive of this sort of individual [Doherty]." 

Speaking of Black Sabbath, Lorenz lamented that the locals would have to deal with two days of noise hell due to the concerts landing back to back. "Together with the Ozzy Osbourne concert the day before, it's the last thing we need in the middle of Mayfair," he said - while the sound of a tiny violin played somewhere close by.

Nevertheless, the curfew may raise concerns with Libertines fans due to Pete Doherty's habit of arriving late on stage. At a Babyshambles gig in Brixton in 2013 the band were 85 minutes late, which in the case of Hyde Park would mean the gig would be have been long over.
