Reuters reports that British singer Lily Allen has accepted damages from the publisher of a French soccer magazine over allegations that she had made offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Cheryl and Ashley Cole. Talking shit about the easy-to-talk-shit-about Beckhams is a big deal? I guess so!
Allen's lawyer Mark Thomson told the High Court in London that So Press, the publishers of So Foot magazine, had agreed to apologize to the 25-year-old British star and to pay her damages and legal costs. The rag published an article in May 2009 and touted it as an exclusive interview with the singer. "The interview suggested that the claimant had made various offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole," Thomson said. "The statements attributed to the claimant were then repeated in an article in The Sun newspaper on May 7, 2009."
The lawyer also said that So Foot now admitted that no interview had taken place and had agreed to withdraw the interview and not republish it. Wow. That's some seriously unethical journalism right there.
Richard Dugdale, lawyer for the publisher, said it offered "sincere apologies to the claimant for the damage, as well as the upset and embarrassment caused to her by the publication of the article."
What do you think of So Foot's irresponsible journalism?
