Looks like there will be even more tag poppin' in Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' future as the hip-hop duo continue to break records with their inescapable single "Thrift Shop."
The rapper and producer duo — who will take the stage at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 14 — have spent their 12th week atop Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with "Thrift Shop," making it the longest-running #1 rap song in the chart's history.
DJ Khaled's 2011 hit "I'm On One" with Drake and Rick Ross previously held the honor after it spent 11 weeks at the top of the chart two years ago. Mary J. Blige's 2006 R&B hit "Be Without You" is still the longest-running song to rule the chart, with 15 weeks at #1.
The track is also #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, which encompasses all genres of music. "I thought it was going to be like a niche demographic that some of our fanbase would like. I never thought that it would be much more than that," Macklemore told of "Thrift Shop" when the single first hit #1 back in January.
The Seattle group continues to rack up wins. On Wednesday, it was reported that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' The Heist pushed past the 500,000 sales mark, making it a gold album. On Monday, it was announced that Mack & Lewis will be rocking their new single "Can't Hold Us" at the MTV Movie Awards. They aren't the only big names scheduled to take the Movie Awards stage however: Selena Gomez will perform her new single "Come and Get It," and the cast of "Pitch Perfect" will reunite with host Rebel Wilson for their first-ever live TV performance.
