The music and life of Marc Bolan will be celebrated on 15th September 2007 with a spectacular concert at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire. The legendary producer Tony Visconti will line up alongside a host of stars with Marc Almond, Rolan Bolan, Ray Dorset, Andy Ellison, Paul King, Linda Lewis, Shakin' Stevens and Ruby Turner already confirmed and further names to be announced shortly. Accompanied by Marc Bolan/T.Rex tribute band T.Rextasy, with many surprise guest musicians, each act will perform their own unique version of a Marc Bolan or T. Rex classic.
Recognised as one of the most iconic performers of the 20th Century, Bolan's influence is as relevant today as when he first burst onto the British music scene in 1970 with Ride A White Swan, and continued to deliver hits with Hot Love, Telegram Sam, Children of the Revolution, 20th Century Boy, and I Love To Boogie to name a few! In addition to being cited as a major influence by the likes of Johnny Marr and Mika, Bolan's music has recently been covered by The Fratellis and Goldfrapp, been featured in three major movies – Moulin Rouge, Jarhead and Billy Elliot and the smash hit television series Life on Mars. MARC BOLAN:THE CELEBRATION which takes place on the eve of the 30th Anniversary of Bolan's tragic death, promises to be a mesmerising evening of stunning performances.
Proceeds from the concert will be split between Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and the PRS Members Fund.
