As far as Adam Levine is concerned, the race for the 2011 Summer Jam crown was over the second Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" hit the airwaves. Because, really, there is no other logical choice. Or any other song, for that matter.
"Unless you want to have a terrible summer, I suggest you choose this as your summer jam, because 'Moves Like Jagger' is your summer jam — you just don't know it yet," he told on the set of the "Jagger" video in Los Angeles. "There's not even any other songs being released this summer; there's just one song, and it's called 'Moves Like Jagger' and it's by Maroon 5. I wish you had the option to not love it and have it, but ... I'm sorry guys."
If "Jagger" does end up dominating the summer (and with the combined might of Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera, it's a definite possibility), it's going to mean that a whole lot of folks will be attempting to ape the Rolling Stones frontman Mick's iconic moves ... a challenge that Levine cautions is much tougher than you could possibly imagine. And he should know.
"I've been a student at the Jagger School of Interesting Movement for 17 years. ... I'm graduating next fall, with honors," he said. "[His moves are] a very carefully calculated, but slightly spastic, incredible rhythmic experience, in which all of your limbs and every bone in your body is moving at completely different times, and it's impossible to re-create. Nobody has moves like Jagger, that's kind of the point. ... That's why the song is so fun, it's fun to try."
So with the summer jam race all but in the bag, Maroon 5 are already making plans to extend their reign well past the hot middle portion of the year with, of all things, a jam for the colder months, too.
"Maybe we'll make a winter jam," Levine laughed.
"It'll be 'Moves Like Björk,' " keyboardist Jesse Carmichael added. "The wheels are already turning."
