The 57-year-old musician has three grown-up daughters, and his youngest child Taryn gave birth to a girl last month. Michael admits he is still adjusting to the reality that Taryn is now a mother, adding his immature personality isn’t helping him come to terms with it.
“My baby had a baby, the most beautiful little thing – Amelia Rose. The first time I held her, I thought, ‘She is not going to try to breastfeed is she?’ But she didn’t, not with me anyway!” He laughed in an interview with British television show This Morning. “It’s tough to wrap your head around the term grandfather, because if you are a musician you are basically a 12-year-old permanently. But the great thing is now it’s your daughter’s turn to be a parent and you get to hold it and adore it. My granddaughter is just so precious.”
Michael famously sported long curly hair when he first shot to fame singing soft rock ballads in the 80s and 90s. He now has a shorter hairstyle and has joked that while the hair on his head isn’t as abundant, he is having trouble controlling it in other places.
“Now I have more hair growing out of my nose than my head,” he explained. “But I guess that is just life and that’s the way it works.”
The singer recently took part in American television show Dancing with the Stars, where he was paired with a professional dancer and expected to learn a number of ballroom and Latin routines. Michael failed to impress the judging panel with his moves and has now accepted he didn’t have enough time to devote to rehearsals as he was touring at the same time.
“I thought it could work logistically, but the reality is the amount of hours you have to put in rehearsing while I was travelling and doing four shows a week,” he added. “It was too much, I took on too much.”
