Students from around the country made their way to the Jersey Shore in late March during their week off from school — but they weren't there to party. They were volunteers for "Spring Fix," an alternative spring break intended to rebuild the tri-state area after the destruction of Hurricane Sandy.
MTV's "Jersey Shore" cast and other celebrities had nothing but praise for the 50 Spring Fix volunteers.
"I think it's amazing at the fact that the students gave up their spring break, from partying and going crazy just letting loose from school, to come here and volunteer and help other people," Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi said. Her co-stars Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola agreed that it was "awesome" for the students to take time out of their lives to help other people.
To honor the students' community service, Ne-Yo headlined a benefit concert at Six Flags Great Adventures amusement park in Jackson, New Jersey, on March 23.
"Once I heard what it was about and what it was for — much love, my heart goes out to everybody, the victims of Hurricane Sandy — I had to be a part of it," Ne-Yo said. "I had to come down and show my appreciation for them being so selfless."
