Neil Young has filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years, singer-songwriter Pegi Young.
The news was revealed by Rolling Stone, who report that the petition for dissolution of marriage was filed by Young on 29 July, with a hearing scheduled for 12 December.
The pair met when Pegi, who is a musician and also founded The Bridge School for children with severe physical and speech impairments, worked as a waitress in a diner - an encounter Young immortalised in 'Unknown Legend'.
Young's marriage to Pegi also inspired songs such as 'Once An Angel' and 'Such A Woman', with Peggi serving as his backing singer for much of his career.
Pegi has also toured extensively on her own, having released three solo albums since 2007.
A spokesperson for Neil Young had no comment on the divorce.
