Neil Young fans will be greeted with an avalanche of new material soon.
The major project, the Archive collection is still coming. The Archives will eventually feature everything Neil has ever done in one package. That includes all albums, videos and movies.
The most immediate project is 'Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House, 1968'. The previously unreleased historic recording was made 40 years ago, a few days before Neil turned 23. Buffalo Springfield broke up 6 months earlier and Neil was yet to release his first solo album.
The album featured many songs that would eventually roll-out over numerous Young albums over coming years.
The tracklisting is:
1. On The Way Home
2. Mr. Soul
3. Expecting To Fly
4. The Last Trip To Tulsa
5. The Loner
6. Birds
7. Winterlong (Excerpt)
8. Out Of My Mind
9. If I Could Have Her Tonight
10. Sugar Mountain
11. I've Been Waiting For You
12. Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing
13. The Old Laughing Lady
14. Broken Arrow
Then there is 'Toast', a newly completed album with Crazy Horse. Young started work on 'Toast' 7 years ago but wasn't happy with where it was heading. He stopped work on the sessions and instead went on to record 'Are You Passionate'.
'Toast' will be released early in 2009.
Also coming soon is the DVD of the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young movie 'Déjà vu'. It was filmed during the 2006 CSNY North American tour.
Meanwhile, Young is on the road with his Electric Band.
They played in Toronto this week.
The setlist has stabilised and includes four new songs and a whole lot of classics.
It may or may not be an insight into what to expect at the Big Day Out in Australia in January. Then again, we are talking Neil Young so expect the unexpected.
