Neil Young dedicated his classic 'Old Man' to his long-time steel guitar player Ben Keith, who died suddenly yesterday at the age of 73.
'This is for Ben Keith', Neil announced onstage in Winnipeg last night.
Ben Keith started working with Neil in 1972 when the tow first came together to record the 'Harvest' album. Neil was in Nashville to tape a spot on The Johnny Cash Show. Ben had been playing around since the 50s. That is him on the Patsy Cline classic 'I Fall To Pieces'.
Ben Keith has played on Neil Young records for 38 years and was also in Pegi Young's band.
He died of a heart attack.
