Neil Young cited the career of Tony Bennett as the template for his own future.
"Look at Tony Bennett. He rocks," Young said at a dinner in his honour hosted by MusiCares on Friday night. "I look at that man and say, "I can do this". I', going to keep on going, and I hope you do, too"/
Young was this year's MusiCares Person of the Year. The annual event is held each year just before the Grammy Awards to acknowledge greatest in the industry.
64-year old Young was recognised not only for his music but for his charity commitments to Farm Aid and the Bridge School for children with severe speech and physical disabilities.
The dinner was hosted by Jack Black and featured performances of Neil's songs by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Elton John and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
"Long may Neil run," Black said in his opening statement.
