Nelly Furtado says she felt "fireworks" when she finished recording her forthcoming album.
The singer's fifth studio release The Spirit Indestructible is due for release in June, following her 2009 Spanish record Mi Plan. It her first English language album since 2006's multi-platinum Loose. Nelly admits it took a long time to produce the tunes.
"Good Lord it took a while. I put out a Spanish album in 2009 and basically right after that I starting recording this new album," she told BBC Radio 1.
"I was in a different state of mind at the beginning of the album and at the end of it, it was like fireworks went off and it was a really great energy because I just knew it was all coming together. It's the best feeling in the world."
The first single off the album, Big Hoops (Bigger the Better) was officially released today. Nelly recorded with Nas, Salaam Remi and Tiesto for the forthcoming album. Working with an array of collaborators produced an eclectic mix of tracks.
"It's kind of all over the place the record," she revealed.
The 33-year-old singer recently outlined what to expect from her new material. She described the offering as a lively dance release.
"This album is all about positivity, youth, good energy, and the relentlessness of the spirit. I want people to live this music the way we did when we wrote it," she said in the statement.
"I want them to jump, dance, scream, laugh, cry, love, and vibe to it, and to turn it up very loud everywhere."
