Today on her show, Lauren Laverne announced New Order and The Staves as two of the five acts that will be performing at 6 Music Live at Maida Vale from Monday 5 to Friday 9 October. The remaining three acts will be announced across the rest of the week.
Lauren will be taking her show to the legendary studios for the sixth time, for five days of incredible music where she will be interviewing the artists and introducing their sets, which will be performed live on air to an intimate audience of fans.
Broadcasting live on BBC Radio 6 Music, the whole three-hour show from 10am to 1pm – including the performances - will also be live-streamed at bbc.co.uk/6music so can be watched online, via tablet or mobile. It will also be live via BBC Red Button from 12 noon Monday to Thursday, with highlights from 7pm every evening (Monday to Friday) and the following week.
English rock band New Order formed in 1980 from the remaining members of Joy Division. Particularly influential throughout the Eighties, the band combined post-punk and electronic dance music and had huge success with hit single Blue Monday. The band returns with a new line-up and newly eclectic sound, marking their fourth decade as a unit. Their 10th album is out in September, and this live show for 6 Music at Maida Vale will be the first time the new material has been performed on TV or radio.
Acoustic folk-rock trio The Staves released their second album, produced by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, earlier this year. The band members, who are all sisters - Jessica, Camilla and Emily Staveley-Taylor - are best known for their delicate sound and signature vocal harmonies. They are currently supporting Florence and the Machine on tour.
Lauren Laverne said: "I'm really excited about the brilliant line-up for this year's 6 Music Live, as well as the prospect of reliving so many of my favourite sessions and performances from across the past year."
To celebrate today's announcements, each show will be featuring a live session - in Chris Hawkins (5am-7am), Sunderland's Hyde & Beast - Dave Hyde formerly of The Futureheads and Neil Bassett of The Golden Virgins – perform, accompanied by a full band complete with horn section; Shaun Keaveny (7am-10am) has English two-piece Drenge, aka brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless, performing two songs; for Lauren Laverne, FFS are in session - the super-group consists of members of Franz Ferdinand and Sparks. The Radcliffe & Maconie Show (1pm-4pm) presents live music from Maryland synth-rock outfit Future Islands. Tom Ravenscroft sits in for Steve Lamacq (4pm-7pm) and welcomes Spanish garage rock band Hinds to the studio to play three tracks; Marc Riley (7pm-9pm) will be joined by American band Houndstooth, who will be playing three songs; and finally, for Gideon Coe (9pm-midnight), London-based group The Clientele will perform.
