The always-colorful Nicki Minaj took home the Moonman for Best Female Video tonight (September 6) at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. The fierce female MC won the prize for her eye-popping, Anthony Mandler-directed beach party clip for "Starships."
Wearing a skintight black and red bodysuit complete with built-in lighting, Minaj took the stage inside L.A.'s famed Staples Center to accept her second Moonman, much to the delight of the audience, who cheered for the Queens-bred rapper. She accepted the coveted prize from the night's cheekiest presenters: the Wanted and "Bachelorette" star Rebel Wilson.
"Oh my god!" Minaj proclaimed several times, clutching her trophy. "I really didn't expect this. Barbz, I know you're out there, I love you so much. To my Barbz, my Ken Barbz, Young Money Cash Money. I just can't believe this even happened."
The winning video follows a scantily clad Minaj as she prances, dances and chills out on a beach filled with native fire breathers and neon-colored ravers. The Moonman marks her second win: At the 2011 show, Minaj won Best Hip-Hop Video for "Superbass."
This year, she beat out other dazzling ladies: She had some stiff competition in Rihanna ("We Found Love"), Katy Perry ("Part of Me"), Beyoncé ("Love on Top") and Selena Gomez and the Scene ("Love You Like a Love Song"). She was also up for Best Hip-Hop Video for her 2 Chainz-assisted "Beez in the Trap" video, but lost to her Young Money pal Drake in that category.
