Only Men Aloud! Winners Of Last Choir Standing 2008 Finish Recording Their Debut Album. But It Almost Didn't Happen!
Only Men Aloud! have just completed their self titled debut album 'Only Men Aloud!' released on Nov 24th. They will also be releasing double A-side single 'All By Myself' / 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' on Dec 15th, a donation from which will be going towards sister charities Shelter and Cymru/Shelter.
Only Men Aloud! learnt the true meaning of 'Don't Rain On My Parade' after a series of unfortunate incidents almost cost their recording career, and musical director Tim Rhys-Evans his freedom!
Firstly Only Men Aloud! had a shock when their studio equipment caught fire at the Bristol Old Vic while shooting the video for 'Don't Rain on My Parade', causing the choir to evacuate and spend the morning standing outside in the rain while the fire brigade dealt with the situation.
Then, while recording the rest of 'Only Men Aloud!' at Air Studios in North London, the MD Tim Rhys-Evans popped out to buy some vitamin pills from the nearby Budgens in Hampstead as a few members of Only Men Aloud! were suffering from colds. Without realising it Tim had unwittingly managed to walk into the aftermath of an armed robbery, breaching a police cordon and literally walking into the shop seconds after the police had arrived to deal with the situation!
When Tim realised there was an armed robbery going on in the store, rather than being treated as a victim, Tim was taken for questioning by police as a suspect.
He said of the situation: "A police officer had been stood on the door and I had walked past her. I thought at the time 'this supermarket is very quiet'. Then I noticed the poor manager had been handcuffed to his desk by the robbers. A police officer spotted me walking around the store and thought I was one of the robbers! "He continued: "I was leaving the supermarket because it hadn't got the vitamins I wanted. I walked past the same police officer and suddenly I was surrounded. One police officer said 'What the hell do you think you're doing? There's an armed robbery going on here! Get in the car!"
Thankfully Tim was released and Only Men Aloud! are now launching a bid to beat the X Factor winner to the Christmas No.1 spot.
