Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr attend Beatles musical

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr attended the opening night of a Beatles musical in Las Vegas on Friday.

The pair joined the likes of Yoko Ono, Julian Lennon, his mother Cynthia and George Harrison's widow Olivia Harrison for the show entitled 'Love', the first major theatrical project the Beatles' company Apple Corps has taken part in, reports the BBC.

The show, which was held at the Mirage Theatre, trails the Beatles as they were growing up in the 1940s right through to the height of Beatlemania in the 1960s.

The acrobatic and dance spectacle was set to a soundscape containing parts of 130 of the band's songs and unpublished outtakes.

At the end of the opening night, McCartney appeared onstage and shouted: "This is for John (Lennon) and George (Harrison)!"

Speaking about the show Starr added: "It was emotional because two of us aren't there. So it really comes home when you're watching this."

The pair were heavily involved in the project, which took several years to devise, along with Ono and Olivia Harrison.

Ono added: "All this time when I was working on this show in the rehearsals, I thought, 'Oh, John should be here.'
