Over the couple of years that we've been publishing set lists, we've touched a number of times on Paul McCartney. It is always fascinating what Beatles, Wings and solo songs he'll pull out for each tour and, sometimes, each show within a tour.
Monday night's show at the Apollo, though, was a little different. It's a much smaller, more intimate venue than he is used to playing and, as McCartney himself said, "A long time ago in Liverpool I dreamt about this." It was, in fact, his first performance at the historic theater with any of his various incarnations.
It was a star-studded affair, too, with everyone from Tony Bennett to Keith Richards and Ron Wood. Others in the audience included Jimmy Fallon, Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Van Zandt, Lorne Michaels, Ben Stiller, Alec Baldwin, Rob Thomas and many more.
As for the music, there were many repeats from his regular, stadium sets, but there were also a few surprises like One After 909 from Let It Be, Marvin Gaye's Hitch Hike and his holiday classic Wonderful Christmastime.
