On 5 and 6 July the Cornbury Music Festival returns for its fifth year to grace the Oxfordshire countryside with non-stop entertainment and headline performances from Paul Simon and Crowded House.
Over its four years Cornbury Festival has become something quite unique. With the festival market getting busier every year, the atmosphere of Cornbury continues to attract both a loyal local crowd and a mixed age audience that come from across the country to the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside.
With its fusion of country, blues, indie and rock, The Cornbury festival still manages to stay eclectic and intimate. Previous artists to have appeared at the festival stages have included stellar artists such as Joe Cocker, Elvis Costello, Blondie, Amy Winehouse, The Pretenders, Robert Plant, The Feeling, Echo & The Bunnymen, Midlake and Texas all attracted to the unique Cornbury setting. With such a strong artist line-up in previous years The Cornbury Festival 2008 promises to be the highlight of the festival season.
Creating its most diverse line up to date, this year Cornbury will see the likes of Grammy Award Winning Paul Simon, Scotland's finest export KT Tunstall, Crowded House, Beverley Knight and blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa, who was named the Best Blues Guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine and has been compared to the likes of everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughn.
The legendary godfathers of reggae, Toots & The Maytals, will be playing The Word Stage along with new wave ska band The Beat whose 80's hit included Tears Of A Clown and Mirror In The Bathroom, both reaching the top ten.
Set in the beautifully landscaped grounds of Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire, the Cornbury Music Festival is fast becoming one the most celebrated events in the music calendar. It is a festival that really has something for everyone – featuring some of the newest blues and folk talent out there alongside some of the all time great musical legends.
Cornbury Festival's promoter Hugh Phillimore comments on this year's eccentric line up:
'I'm totally thrilled with the calibre of the line-up for our 5th Year. Paul Simon is a huge coup for us and along with the likes of Crowded House, KT Tunstall, The Bangles, Beverly Knight and Tom Baxter I think it's going be a really hot ticket this summer. Our bill is wonderfully varied with great blues players – Eric Bibb & Joe Bonamassa – other legends – 10cc, Nick Lowe, Toots & The Maytals & The Beat – folk stars – Bellowhead – US Country star Tift Merritt – all mixed with the Cornbury magic – totally irresistible!'
