The 49-year-old former American Idol judge dialled 911 at 4.35pm on February 14, while she was in a car with the unnamed man in Santa Barbra.
TMZ managed to obtain a copy of her call, and reported that Abdul was sobbing and claiming that she was being held against her will. 'I want to go, and he won't let me,' she said.
But just seconds later, Abdul told the operator that the man had agreed to drop her off somewhere and then ended the call. She spoke to police an hour later and decided not to file a police report.
A spokesperson for the star insisted that the argument was nothing out of the ordinary.
'Arguments with loved ones are often at times heated. After the call was made everything was worked out,' the rep explained.
