Pearl Jam ended their world tour in Oeiras, Portgual on Saturday night with gob smacker of a statement. Eddie Vedder stunned fans when he said the band was going into hiatus.
Eddie said the show was the band's last show "in a long time". "Thank you for coming to our last show. Not our last ever, but our last in a long time, he said".
Pearl Jam formed in Seattle in 1990 and has gone non-stop ever since. It has been one of the rock world's most prolific runs.
Founding members Eddie Vedder (vocals), Jeff Ament (bass), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar) and Mike McCready (lead guitar) have always been in the band.
The only revolving chair in Pearl Jam has been the drummer's chair. Original drummer Dave Krusen left the band after recording the debut 'Ten'. He left before the album took off and was replaced by Matt Chamberlain. Chamberlain lasted only a few months and was replaced with Dave Abbruzzese who was fired after the third album 'Vitalogy'. Then came Jack Irons who left in 1988 and was replaced with Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron (who at least has a job to go too because Soundgarden are getting back together).
"Have fun tonight because we don't know when else we will have fun," Vedder told the crowd.
