Peggy Sue & The Pirates is Rosa Rex and Katy Klaw from Brighton via London. Their friendship was originally based on a mutual appreciation of teen film 'Empire Records' and an unspoken rivalry about their collections of Regina Spektor bootlegs. Then in January 2006, Katy was offered a gig and asked Rosa along to keep her company on stage. The duo played 3 songs one of which they wrote that night and Peggy Sue and the Pirates was born.
Accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and sounding something like the Moldy Peaches if they had grown up dancing to Sleater Kinney and learnt to sing listening to Billie Holiday the duo have since played over 100 shows supporting the likes of The Gossip, Joan as Police Woman, The Maccabees, Jack Penate, Blood Red Shoes and Kate Nash - who they supported on her first UK tour and are due back on the road with in October. This year has seen them busy recording radio sessions and performing at festivals – Glastonbury, Bestival, End of the Road, Electric Picnic….
