The Pet Shop Boys may have some blurred lines on the cover of their new album, Electric, but its another Blurred Lines that threatens to stop them from scoring their first number 1 album in the UK in twenty years.
The Official Chart Company has released their mid-week chart and it shows Electric just 1,500 copies behind Robin Thickefs album Blurred Lines. Both, in their first week of release, are outselling the Jay-Z album Magna Carta Holy Grail which was released the previous week.
It has been twenty years since the Pet Shop Boys have had a number one album in the U.K., dating back to 1993Œs Very. Since then, they have released six studio albums, all of which went to the top ten with 1996Œs Bilingual and 2009Œs Yes peaking highest at number 4. Their last album, 2012Œs Elysium, topped out at 9.
Then there is one of the big surprises of 2013. Rod Stewartfs Time is at number four mid-week. In its tenth week of release, it has never been out of the top five.
