Phil Collins has the number one song in New Zealand this week with his 1981 hit 'In The Air Tonight'. You can thank the viral campaign by Cadbury featuring the Cadbury Gorilla for getting him there.
Cadbury launched the $12 million campaign out of the UK a year ago and the ad has become a viral sensation on the internet.
Collins is rumoured to have been paid $1 million for the rights for the use of the song in the campaign.
It features a gorilla playing his signature drum sound while 'In The Air Tonight' is playing.
The campaign is unique in that it does not mention the name Cadbury once, nor does it mention chocolate. It is working for Cadbury because the Gorilla has become known as the Cadbury Gorilla and raised awareness of the Cadbury brand.
Well, it is also working for Phil. Not only has he banked his million bucks, he'll also have a cheque coming out of New Zealand for royalties from his latest hit song.
