The legendary record producer Phil Spector has been indicted on a murder charge in Los Angeles.
Mr Spector, 64, who produced songs for Ike and Tina Turner and the Beatles, is alleged to have killed actress Lana Clarkson at his home 19 months ago.
An autopsy found that Ms Clarkson was killed by a single shot after a gun was placed in her mouth.
Mr Spector is to stand trial in December. He maintains that Ms Clarkson killed herself.
The police claim they found traces of blood and gunshot residue on the record producer's body and maintained he cleaned and moved the gun after the shooting.
It is thought the two met each other for the first time on the night of her death.
Mr Spector remains free on $1m bail.
If convicted he faces life imprisonment.
Outside the court, he branded the prosecution reprehensible and despicable.
