The Pigeon Detectives have been forced to cancel 2 shows in Ireland this week due to singer Matt Bowman injuring himself on stage yesterday (Sunday 11th May) at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Maidstone.
Bowman badly injured his leg in the fourth song but continued to leap off the stage & scissor kick into the air off the drum kit until he collapsed. He managed to finish the set before being taken to hospital where they initially wanted to operate immediately, however after further advice he was transferred to Leeds where he is currently being treated.
The band are now waiting anxiously to hear whether any more dates on their UK tour will have to be delayed. Doctor Dave Hancock, Head of Physio at Chelsea said that if Matt was a footballer he would be out for 6 weeks but hopefully he will be back at shows this weekend.
The Pigeon Detecives are due to kick off the mainland leg of the shows on Friday in Glasgow.
The band are looking to reschedule the Irish dates (13th May - Dublin, Ambassador Theatre / 14th May - Belfast, Mandela Hall) and profusely apologise to their fans who had bought tickets.
The irony of the fact the band were performing their new single (released today) 'This Is An Emergency' on stage, and then Matt had to leave the site by ambulance has not been lost on anybody ...
