Pixie Lott has triumphed against Florence & The Machine, La Roux, The Saturdays and Tinchy Stryder to become Best UK & Ireland New Act at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). The MTV Europe Music Awards will be broadcast live from the 02 World, Berlin on Thursday 5 November at 9pm and are sponsored by Sony Ericsson, MTV Games / Harmonix's The Beatles™: Rock Band™ and Dell.
Pixie, who will accept her gong at the Awards against the historic backdrop of the Berlin Wall, will now go head-to-head with 21 other winners from MTV's channels in Europe to be nominated in the Best European Act category. From today, MTV viewers will be asked to vote for their favourite local winners via www.mtvema.com. The 5 acts with the most votes will be nominated in the Best European Act category. Nominees will be announced on Monday 2 November and the winner of the Best European Act will be selected by MTV's audiences and presented live at the 2009 EMAs.
In addition to winning Best UK & Ireland New Act, Pixie has also been nominated in the Best New Act and Best Push Artist categories at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards. The winner of the Best New Act and Best Push Artist categories will also be announced at the event, which will be broadcast to more than 502 million MTV homes around the world.
