19-year old British pop star Pixie Lott has written a song on the next John Farnham album.
Farnham has recorded the Pixie song 'You Took My Love' for his forthcoming album 'Jack'.
"He had no trouble singing what effectively was a female lyric," producer Ross Fraser said at a Farnham listening session at Sony Music today.
'Jack' is an album Jack wanted to make. Fraser said the starting point was when he presented John with a Steve Kipner song 'Love Chooses You'. Kipner wrote the song three years ago and considered presenting to it Farnham then but thought John had "retired" like the rest of Australia.
"We're not breaking any new ground here. It's a Farnham record," the producer said. "The only new ground we broke was getting him back into the studio."
'Jack' has been 100% using real instruments. "The only computer on the record is the one we recorded it on," Ross said.
For his first album in 5 years, John went back to his origins and listened to whom he used to listen to when he was learning how to sing. "John learned from listening to Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder," Ross said. On 'Jack', he has covered the Ray Charles classics 'Hit The Road Jack' and 'You Don't Know Me'.
John Farnham ' Jack' will be released through Sony Music on October 15, 2010.
