Best known for her roles on "The Cosby Show" and her hit television show "That's So Raven," Raven-Symoné has certainly built up an impressive résumé for someone so young. Not planning to slow down anytime soon, the actress/singer has added Broadway star to her long list of accomplishments. Since April, she has been starring in the Broadway musical "Sister Act," based on the hit 1992 movie, as Deloris Van Cartier.
We caught up with Symoné recently, and she gave MTV News a backstage tour of the production and told us that she has been thoroughly enjoying her time in the limelight.
"It's a lot of fun, really fun. We have a wonderful cast and crew, the Broadway community is absolutely amazing," Symoné said. "The story is so well put together, and the directing, production have just been a dream, so it's been great."
When first approached to star in the show, Symoné admits there was zero hesitation about making her Broadway debut.
"I always watched musicals when I was growing up, and so when I heard about this opportunity, I'm like, well, this is like my version of a musical, maybe not 'Hello Dolly,' but I love the movie 'Sister Act,' " Symoné said. "So bring it on!"
As luck would have it, Symoné got some pretty sage advice from one of the producers of the show — none other than the original star of "Sister Act" herself, Whoopi Goldberg.
"To listen to the director," Symoné said Goldberg told her. "Which is awesome advice because most people would try to come in and be like, 'You should do this, this this.' But no, she was like, Jerry Zak is a wonderful director, he understands the vision that we are trying to create, and I trusted her and I trust him. So I'm just there to fill in some pretty big shoes."
Symoné, who recently made headlines regarding her sexual orientation, will continue her run on Broadway for the next few months. As for post-Broadway plans, Symoné is in no rush to figure it out.
"I'm looking to go home and just relax for second," she said.
