The actor has collected over 100 vintage guitars which he is now auctioning off with the hope of raising at least $1 million for Himalayan charities.
'It's like falling in love,' he told Guitar Aficionado magazine of the thrill of finding a new vintage instrument in shops on his travels.
'Each guitar makes you play differently - it's like touching a woman. How does she like it?,' he added, laughing.
'I'd always managed to find something that I liked, and the next thing I knew I had over 100 guitars!'
He is auctioning his collection through Christie's and using the money to build hospitals and schools in the Himalayas.
'Just imagine what we'll be able to build there. These guitars will change people's lives,' Gere said.
