End of the Road Festival
12th – 14th September 2008
Larmer Tree Gardens, North Dorset
Richard Hawley and Bon Iver are two of the artists we can today announce for this year's End of the Road Festival lineup. They'll be playing Sunday and Saturday respectively.
Also in the latest batch are: Cate Le Bon, David Thomas Broughton, Congregation, Liz Green, Noah & the Whale, Peter & The Wolf [USA] and Zombie Zombie
They all join one of the finest lineups of the year, at one of the best small festivals on the UK circuit – winner of Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2006.
Headlining End of the Road are Coner Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band / Dirty Three (Friday), Mercury Rev (Saturday) and Calexico (Sunday).
Several more major artists are set to be announced in coming weeks.
The relatively intimate crowd of 5,000 attendees, plus local peacocks and parrots, will witness some huge cult names alongside a range of today's most talented rising stars in a bill that includes the following artists:
Mercury Rev, Calexico, Coner Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band, Dirty Three, Low, American Music Club, Two Gallants, British Sea Power, Sun Kil Moon / Mark Kozelek, Billy Childish, Micah P Hinson, The Mountain Goats, Akron/Family, Kimya Dawson, Darren Hayman (Darren and Jack Play Hefner Songs), FM Belfast, Laura Marling, Devon Sproule, Angelo Spencer, Kelley Stoltz, Jeffrey Lewis, Jason Molina, A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Bob Log III, The Wave Pictures, Woodpigeon and Friska Viljor
Tucked away in the garden's glades and pathways, attendees might also stumble across the mysterious Library in the Woods, a Healing Retreat, surprise art installations, lovingly curated film and comedy tents and several of the surprise impromptu performances that have become the stuff of legend, as bands caught up in the spirit of the festival – often described as akin to an early Glastonbury - knock out a song with the aid of a handy woodland piano.
Said festival organiser Simon Taffe: "I sold my house to put on this festival, and three years on it's even more the best thing I have ever done than ever before. We try and bring down the barriers between artists and festival-goers as much as possible, and all the surprises and spontaneous performances help create a sense that anything can happen. I can't wait!"
