Ricky Gervais has teased Sir Paul McCartney for having no money since his divorce from Heather Mills.
The British comic star presented the Golden Globe awards last night (17.01.10) and used the star-studded occasion to poke fun at the former Beatle's split from the ex-model.
Referring to Paul, Ricky told the celebrity crowd gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills: "We actually came over on the same flight. I didn't get to speak to him because I was up the front in first class. He was behind me in coach - saving money. He spent an awful lot last year."
Heather – who raises six-year-old daughter Beatrice with Paul – was granted a £24.3 million divorce settlement in March 2008 following her highly-publicised divorce battle with Paul, 67. Their divorce was finalised in the summer of 2008.
The 'Yesterday' hitmaker was joined by his new girlfriend Nancy Shevell at the awards ceremony for which he was nominated in the Best Original Song category for his track '(I Want To) Come Home', which featured in the film 'Everybody's Fine'.
He lost out to track 'The Weary Kind' by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett from the film 'Crazy Heart'.
Ricky continued: "I don't think we have to feel too sorry for him. He's doing alright!"
Paul was not the only star Ricky tormented during the show.
He also poked fun at 'In Bruges' actor Colin Farrell – who was notorious for his womanising ways and partying lifestyle.
Ricky quipped: "One stereotype I hate is that all Irishmen are just drunk, swearing hellraisers. Please welcome Colin Farrell."
However, the 33-year-old hunk was expecting to be teased by the 'Night At The Museum' star.
Colin told the laughing audience: "I heard Ricky had specifically asked to introduce me and I thought, 'Oh, b**ls.' "
