Robert Downey Jr. slams Ricky Gervais at Golden Globes

The Office star aimed his humour at the audience at the awards event last night.

But Sherlock Holmes actor Robert seemed to not take it so well.

Ricky had named a list of the Hollywood star's films, including Kiss Kiss (Band, Bang) and Iron Man, saying they sounded like porn movies.

He then joked: 'He has done all those films, but many of you in this room probably know him from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail.'

As Downey Jr. came out to present Best Actress in a Comedy, he fought back.

The 45-year-old said: 'Aside from the fact that it's been hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show has been pretty good so far, wouldn't you?'

He then gave his unusual presenter's speech, claiming that he doesn't 'know if an actress can do her best work until she's slept with me.'

Robert went round the nominees including Annette Bening, Angelina Jolie, Julianne Moore and Anne Hathaway hinting they had rejected him.

He added: 'I'm not saying that my theory holds water but I'm just saying, if I could I'd give it to all five of you, all at once, right here, centre stage, in front of my wife, the audience and a million viewers.'

Funnyman Ricky opened the night with a dig at party mad Charlie Sheen.

The 49-year-old said: 'It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast!'
