Robert Pattinson is still very much in the running to play Jeff Buckley in an upcoming biopic, after impressing producers at a recent meeting.
There was confusion over the Buckley film, with news that Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley had beaten the Twilight star to the role, only for it to emerge that Badgley had been cast in a different production altogether.
However, Pattinson has now met with producers Michelle Sy and Orian Williams, who are still "in the midst of casting," according to EOnline.com
Sy and Williams said: "Rob has expressed interest in the project and we did meet with him. There are some actors who make sense, but it's easier to believe when it's more of an unknown."
Pattinson has been reported as being "obsessed" with landing the part of the singer, who drowned aged 30 in 1997.
Badgley's won the part in Greetings from Tim Buckley due to his having a vocal range that is closer to Buckley's than either Pattinson or James Franco, who was also considered for the part.
The producers added: "In real life Jeff was a goofball, his friends told us to look for a young Jim Carey. But we just want to find the right person with the right soul."
If Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert, has anything to do with it, that soul belongs to Pattinson, with her adding to the publication: "Robert is a fine young actor. I'm flattered he's been linked to this project."
Producers hope to prep the Buckley film in September, with a view to beginning the shoot by the end of the year.
