Robert Pattinson Rumored For 'Queen Of The Desert' With Naomi Watts

Robert Pattinson seems to have lined up another flick to add to his already bustling schedule. The actor is in talks to star in the historical drama "Queen of the Desert" alongside Naomi Watts.

The Werner Herzog-directed film will focus on English writer Gertrude Bell (Watts) and the her life as an archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political ambassador for the British Empire, Variety reports. Pattinson is attached to play T.E. Lawrence, better known as British army officer and writer Lawrence of Arabia. Bell and Lawrence were lifelong friends who worked together to create the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq.

According to the report, the film is aiming to start production this fall. Pattinson is slated to be on the road promoting the final "Twilight Saga" film, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," around its November 16 release.

In addition to "Queen of the Desert," this Friday, fans will get to see a grittier side of Pattinson in the David Cronenberg-directed Big Apple saga, "Cosmopolis." Pattinson will sit down with MTV News this week during "MTV First: Robert Pattinson," which will take place Thursday at 7:49 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com, to open up about the flick and premiere an exclusive clip from it.

"Cosmopolis" is a far-cry from the lovelorn vampire days of "Twilight." The sexed-up tale follows a business tycoon (Pattinson) on the way to get a haircut. Along the way, he begins to unravel as the empire he built, and the world itself, crumbles around him.

"I think the sort of cultural relevance of being in 'Twilight' and coming through that, I was always afraid of it before, like being in an overwhelming movie, but I think it makes it more interesting and sort of creates a lens to look at it," he told at the premiere of making the transition from "Twilight" to an edgier role like in "Cosmopolis." "Maybe it will be cool."

Over the course of the last few months, Pattinson's dance card has been filling up with an array of unexpected post-"Twilight" roles. He will star alongside Guy Pearce in the futuristic Western "The Rover," and go on the search for Saddam Hussein in "Mission: Blacklist."
