Things aren't looking too bright for Robert Pattinson in the latest "Cosmopolis" trailer, but he doesn't seem to mind all that much.
With his fortune bleeding "by the ton," and his wife (played by Sarah Gadon) suspicious of what exactly he does for a living, Pattinson embarks on a trippy odyssey around a dystopian Manhattan, where civilization is crumbling around him. In the latest trailer from the David Cronenberg-directed flick, Pattinson's slick Eric Packer admits that "my personal fortune is in ruins, and there's been an incredible threat on my life. Makes me feel free in a way I've never known."
His wife then wonders, "Free to do what?" Well, the trailer teases that perhaps Pattinson just wants the freedom to be bad. His life quickly devolves into the seedy and gritty, as he encounters corruption and women of loose morals, becoming what his wife calls "a dangerous person."
The film is set for release on August 17 and is based on the novel by Don DeLillo. Set in the not-so-far-off future in the Big Apple, it follows Packer as everything around him begins to fall apart on his way to get a haircut.
Fans have gotten the chance to see this edgier side of Pattinson in some previous teasers that dropped earlier this spring (one in April and a previous one in March.) But, this latest trailer, released on Thursday, gives an even deeper look at the trouble brewing for Pattinson and his co-stars Jay Baruchel, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti.
And, if fans are wondering if Pattinson can pull off the darker role, he already has gotten a four-star review from Kristen Stewart, who saw the film when it premiered at Cannes.
"He's so good in it!" Stewart told. "He's really, really [good]. I don't even know how he [did it]. I couldn't even understand it. It's so good, it's so cool, I'm so proud of him. Thank God."
