The 24-year-old Twilight actor said that he drove from Los Angeles to New Orleans, and loved the anonymity of being able to drink in a pub without being recognised.
He told Vanity Fair, 'It was awesome. I went on service roads the whole time. I navigated it on an iPhone. It didn't seem like America at all. Me and my friends were the only white people.
'No one recognised me or anything. And I was like, 'Ah, this is really cool', sitting there eating chicken wings and stuff.'
But his holiday joy was cut short when fans found out where he was and police had to be called to control the crowds.
