Roger Waters' seminal concert of The Wall before a live audience of 250,000 in Berlin and international live broadcast viewership of ½ billion is, arguably, the greatest concert event in history. Staged on vacant terrain between Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate in the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall, it marks a momentous cultural and political landmark. Roger is taking a new production of The Wall on tour across Europe from March and to celebrate Universal Music are proud to present a repackaged, limited deluxe combo edition of the DVD and 2-CD live album.
'30 years ago when I wrote The Wall, I was a frightened young man. Well, not that young, I was 36 years old. It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, whatever! All these issues and 'isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.' (Roger Waters, 2010)
In the UK the new production of The Wall will be performed at London's O2 Arena on six nights in May from the 11th to 18th, followed by two nights at the Manchester Evening News Arena on the 20th and 21st. It will return to the UK for a date at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on 27th June with one more date at the Manchester Evening News Arena on 28th June.
