For the first time ever, all 17 of the Rolling Stones' performances on the Ed Sullivan show are coming out on DVD. Six Ed Sullivan Shows Starring the Rolling Stones hits stores on November 1 from Universal Music Enterprises and Sofa Entertainment.
Andrew Solt, executive producer and founder of Sofa Entertainment, said "The best Rolling Stones TV performances are on these shows. On the concert films and on other shows you don't get the same production values, and here the sound is as good as the visuals. Groups knew they would appear in front of 35 million people so they rehearsed and made sure they would look good before doing on. Knowing they were playing live on TV made them do their best."
The shows span five years from their first appearance on October 25, 1964 through their final performance on November 23, 1969. Controversy followed them throughout the years from their first appearance when the crowd screamed so loud that you couldn't hear the interview with Mick Jagger or Sullivan announcing the next week's guests, to their 1967 performance of Let's Spend Some Time Together, the change in title ordered by Sullivan himself. Afterwards, the group changed into Nazi uniforms only to be told by Sullivan to get back into their original outfits before singing again.
The set will include 2 CDs containing the six complete Sullivan shows, so be ready for appearances by a myriad of other entertainers including Tom Jones, Petula Clark, Rodney Dangerfield, Robert Klein, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and many more.
Bonus material includes a 24-page booklet with rare photos, documents and liner notes by Greil Marcus along with a replica ticket to the Sullivan show.
One month earlier, on October 4, an abridged version of the full set will be released containing four of the six shows.
