BBC4 is set to broadcast 'Imagine… Rufus Wainwright – Prima Donna' on Monday 12th April 2010 at 10pm.
Presented by Alan Yentob, the programme is an intimate, revealing portrait of the artist, set against the backdrop of the creation of Rufus' first opera 'Prima Donna', and speaks candidly to him about his life and family.
The documentary, which was first screened on BBC One last summer, includes special performances from Rufus as well as interviews with his sister Martha, father Loudon Wainwright III and his mother Kate McGarrigle, who passed away in January of this year.
'Imagine… Rufus Wainwright – Prima Donna' will be shown on the same day that the opera 'Prima Donna' opens for a four night run at Sadler's Wells, London after debuting in July 2009 at Manchester's International Festival.
The Sadler's Wells opening night will be followed by a one-off gig from Rufus at the same venue the next evening, Tuesday 13th April while 'Prima Donna' will be performed on the 14th, 16th and 17th of April.
Rufus's acclaimed new album 'All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu', is out now and he will also be embarking on a UK tour this month.
