The British Comedy Awards will be the first time the pair have appeared on TV live together since the Sachsgate incident, which resulted in Jonathan getting suspended from the BBC.
Organisers are said to be putting Ross, 50, and Brand, 35, together to try and create controversy for the first show that will air on Channel 4 instead of ITV.
An insider told British newspaper The Sun: 'We're dying for some fireworks for the inaugural event - and what better way than by putting Wossy and Russell together live?
'They've never really addressed the Sachsgate row together so we're hoping they may make a few cheeky references to it on the show.
'We'll be standing by with the bleeper in case it gets too debauched, but the show is going out after the watershed so we're not going to turn it into Watch With Mother.'
Ross is set to host the event and Russ will join him on stage to possibly do some impromptu jokes with him.
The pair caused controversy in 2008 when they told actor Andrew Sachs during Russell's Radio 2 show that Russell had 'f****d his granddaughter' Georgina Baillie, 25.
The British Comedy Awards airs in the UK on Saturday.
